About Local AI Tools
Local AI Tools is a set of single-purpose web pages. Each one does one job, such as turning speech into text, cutting a subject out of a photo or pulling vocals out of a song, and it does that job with an open-source model that runs on your own computer, inside the browser tab. The site is made by SwordFishSoft Inc.
Why we built it this way
Most online AI tools follow the same pattern: you upload a file, it gets processed on someone else's server, and you download the result. That's a poor trade for a voice memo, a scanned ID, a customer email or an unreleased track. You're handing over the file just to get a small edit back, and usually you also have to make an account and live within a monthly quota.
Browsers can now run neural networks directly. WebGPU gives a web page access to the graphics card, and WebAssembly runs well on the CPU when there's no GPU. Many useful models are small enough to download in under a minute. So we took the upload step out. The page downloads the model once, your browser keeps a copy, and after that the work happens on your machine. How it works explains the details and shows how to check it yourself.
How we choose what to build
- One task per page. Each page is built around one thing people actually search for. We don't publish copies of the same tool under different names.
- Licences that permit this use. We only use models released under licences that allow commercial use, such as MIT, Apache-2.0, BSD-3-Clause and similar. Some well-known models can't appear here for that reason. Every tool links to its model's licence text, and the licences page lists all of them.
- Small enough to be practical. We stay within limits a normal computer can handle: no more than about 1 GB of weights, a first load on a typical desktop connection within about a minute, and processing in seconds rather than minutes. If a task needs a bigger model than that, we don't pretend a browser can do it well.
- Tested on both engines before release. Every tool is run in an automated Chrome session through the WebGPU path and the WebAssembly path, using its own sample files. We check the output itself, not just whether the model loaded. A model that runs without errors can still produce useless results, and we've caught that more than once.
What we don't do
- We don't receive your files. There's no upload endpoint on this site.
- We don't require an account for the free tools.
- We don't set tracking cookies. Page-view statistics come from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free. Details are in the privacy policy.
How the site is paid for
Free pages may show a small number of ads, and they're never placed inside the tool itself. We also plan to offer an optional paid tier with larger models, batch processing and no ads. The free tools will stay free, and they'll keep running on your device either way.
Mac apps
SwordFishSoft also makes native macOS apps. Some of them handle heavier versions of the same tasks, with larger models and longer files, which a browser can't do comfortably. When a tool here has a matching Mac app, its page says so. The full list is on our Mac App Store developer page.
